Trout Creek offers Structural Insulated Panel (SIP) packages as well as home and cottage kits. Packages are available for a basic shell including walls and roof or a complete lock-up package is available.
Let Trout Creek Design Your Home With SIPS
What are Structural Insulated Panels?
Structurally Insulated Panels (SIP’s) are a high-performance engineered wood product with a super-insulating core of rigid expanded polystyrene (EPS); structurally laminated and pressure cured between two sheets of oriented strand board (OSB) on either side of an interior filled with expanded, polystyrene foam that is compressed and bonded to never come apart and to provide a continuous, durable and highly heat transfer resistant and water-resistant barrier.
What are SIPs used for?
SIP’s are used for roofs, walls and/or floors, under slabs and in crawl spaces resulting is a highly efficient structural building system that is extremely strong, predictable, energy efficient and cost effective. A green home product, SIP’s can be used for both residential and commercial builds. Many of our cottage and cabin kits are built from Structurally Insulated Panels; however, SIP’s are an ideal energy and cost-effective product for all building construction.
SIPs v. Traditional Framing
Government agencies and building officials recognize the significant difference in high performance framing methods. This is a major part of the path towards a net zero home. As energy codes are changing, SIPs will always exceed the recommended performance you need for your home. SIPs perform better with less work!
Exceptional Air Quality & Temperature Control
When compared to buildings framed with dimensional lumber, Premier’s large SIPs cover greater surfaces with far less gaps in the walls and roofs, to be filled and sealed, offering home and building owners better indoor air quality, reduced infiltration of outside pollutants, smaller HVAC system needs and superior indoor temperature control. Trout Creek homes and buildings stay cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter than buildings framed with dimensional lumber.

Here’s some of our frequently asked questions, but you can always drop us a line. We’re here to help!
What are SIPs?
Structural Insulated Panels (or SIPs) are a high-performance engineered wood product with a super-insulating core of rigid expanded polystyrene (EPS), structurally laminated and pressure cured between two sheets of oriented strand board (OSB). When using Premier SIPs for a building’s roof, walls and/or floors, the result is a highly efficient structural building system that is extremely strong, predictable, energy efficient and cost effective.
How much do SIPs cost?
Building with SIPs generally costs about the same as building with wood frame construction — when you factor in the labor savings resulting from shorter construction time and less job-site waste.
Other savings are realized because less expensive heating and cooling systems are required with SIP construction.
The cost to build a SIPs house depends entirely on its design. Generally the installed cost of Premier SIPs is comparable to stick framed construction. But when you look at the benefits of labor savings, and less waste, SIPs offer short-term construction savings as well as long-term benefits for the homeowner in energy savings.
How do plumbing and electrical integrate with SIPs?
While there are some specific techniques that your subcontractors will need to become familiar with, building with SIPs will not create a significant roadblock in your construction. Traditionally, very little plumbing is included in exterior walls regardless of the building style used and with SIPs most plumbing is located in the interior walls.
Electrical chases are manufactured into our panels at 16″ and 45″ above the floor and every 4 feet centered vertically in the walls. Special chases can also be installed into our panels to accommodate low voltage wiring. Wiring is simply pulled through the chases after the panels have been installed.
Why are more people building with SIPs now than ever before?
Stronger houses. Straighter, more predictable roofs, walls and floors. Greener structures.
Consumers are demanding better quality building products, healthier indoor environments and they also have a higher level of environmental responsibility than in previous decades. Builders and architects are designing to meet these needs. And SIPs fit the need perfectly.
Builders are finding once they start with SIPs they have a hard time going back to stick frame construction. Premier SIPs save builders time and money with faster installation, while creating a stronger, more efficient home.
Across the country, Premier SIPs are a part of luxury homes, industrial warehouses, tract developments, multifamily units, churches, wineries, health care facilities and retail shops. If someone can dream it up, SIPs can help build it.
What are the Benefits of SIP’s
- Walls do not bend or bulge. Surface offers a sound nail-base for all exterior and interior finishes.
- Walls are straight, plumb and square. Saves on drywall, door and window installation and provides better finishing for cabinetry and flooring.
- Thermal performance. Comfortable, quiet and clean structures.
- Reduces air and moisture infiltration.
- Peace of mind lifetime construction.
- Panels are factory engineered which saves time and money on installation.
- Insulation is built into the panels and built to precision which reduces the size of heat and air-conditioning unit (HVAC) by up to 40% and savings on energy bills up to 60%.
- Electrical chases are factory installed in the foam, saving time and labour costs.
